THE 2016 LIGHT UP LEEDERVILLE CARNIVAL
The Leederville Carnival occurs the first Sunday in December between 12 and 9pm along the streets and alleys within the Leederville Township. A free event it is a celebration of Leederville, it's history, it's cosmopolitan lifestyle. The Leederville Carnival is expecting 60,000 visitors this year soaking up all things Leederville
MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR
It’s obvious – the City of Vincent loves Leederville. It’s one of our five town centres and we’re incredibly proud of it. In the last few years, we’ve worked with the local community and the fantastic Leederville Connect group to make real and lasting enhancements.
Together, we’ve created a lively urban park with a nature play area and opened up the skate park and made it a free space for everyone. We have added epic street art and the iconic ‘Downlounge’ public sculpture with its quirky trio of upside down lamps. We’ve planted more than 100 street trees, revitalised key laneways and added Christmas lights.
This is all made possible through the hard work of the Council and team Vincent, along with the passion, time and energy of the Leederville community. And we’ve got more to come.
I’m thrilled to welcome you to the fifth Light Up Leederville Carnival and thank you for coming to see what the fuss is all about here in Leederville.
Come and say hello at the Vincent stall – and enjoy the day!
John Carey , Vincent Mayor
This relaxed and inclusive celebration of all things Leederville will fill the township's streets with food, music, fashion, art and children's entertainment! Watch for what's in alleyways and hidden nooks of Leederville. The streets will be closed off to traffic during the festival which culminates in the turning on of the Leederville street christmas lights at 7:45pm at the corner of Oxford and Newcastle Streets!
A fantastic opportunity for the community in and around Leederville and the wider metropolitan Perth to come and soak up the celebration in one of Perth's great cultural assets, Leederville!

WHat to wear
Aside from the usual hat and sunscreen, comfortable shoes etc etc we want people to dress CARNIVAL! Bright colours, crazy costumes, head dresses, there will be giveaways and prizes for best dressed on the day so get creative.
Bring water bottle! We will have a series of water refill stations in and around Leederville kindly donated by the water corporation so bring a bottle and fill it for free, helps the environment and doesn't cost a thing!
Bring cash! There are limited ATMs and EFTPOS facilities in Leederville and with 80,000 potential visitors you may want to avoid any annoying queues. We encourage people to bring cash on the day.

Bring a light! Between 7.30 and 8pm the Leederville Lights will be ignited and we ask everyone to bring down a light to help us light up Leederville on the night.
Get creative! Past examples have been glow in the dark balloons, stick torches... what will you bring? Let us know on social media
Catch the train - Leederville Station is in the heart of Leederville, as there will be limited parking available on the day we recommend catching the train.
Ride your bike! There are bike racks throughout Leederville and many bike paths available to cyclists, not to mention our FREE bike valet service at either end of Oxford st. So make the most of it and ride down on the day!
Leederville lights up with renewable energy: WA's first ever renewable energy powered street festival
Carnival goers are urged to bring their riding legs as the Light Up Leederville Carnival expands into new and exciting territory in 2016. The bold new initiative in partnership with Synergy will power the 80,000 person carnival using only renewable energy sources.
Synergy intends to incorporate a number of different renewable energy options to power the whole carnival; with all stages and vendors to be powered off pedal, solar, wind and recycled oil energy sources. The carnival and Leederville Connect commend Synergy in joining the carnival to take this positive step forward into and beyond the 21st Century.
NOTE: Renewable energy applies to direct carnival electrical activities only and does not include existing businesses and street lights
